From Exeter, follow the A30 until you turn off for Okehampton.
At the T-junction at the end of the exit ramp off the A30, turn right onto the B3260 (signposted Okehampton).
Continue forward onto the B3260. Entering Okehampton, continue
past Whitehouse Services until you get to the high street. In the middle of the high street are traffic lights (with a Lloyds bank on one corner). Turn right onto Market Street (signposted Hatherleigh). Go straight across the mini-roundabout (note the excellent Waitrose supermarket on your right) and bear round to the left as you start to go up Lodge Hill. Follow this twisty road until you come to a T-junction (at Elmead Cross).
Turn right at the junction onto the A386 (signposted
Hatherleigh). Continue forward onto the A386 and stay on the main road.
When you reach Hatherleigh you will encounter a roundabout. Take the 2nd exit (i.e. straight on) following the A386 (signposted Torrington). Stay on the A386 until you get
to Meeth, our nearest village. Drive through Meeth, past the Bull and Dragon on your left, and
out the other end.
After the signs for Plovers Plants (a small garden centre) on the left,
carry on for about 300 yards. You will be going up a gentle hill. When you see a left bend sign in the hedge, prepare to turn right in 30 yards. Be aware the right turn you are about to make is on the sharp bend you are approaching.
You will see a cream cottage with a red roof on the right, with a track beside the house that nearly doubles back on the road. On the wall in front of the cottage is a white and green sign for "The Shuteslades" (there is also a red post box in the hedge as you turn in). Turn right off
the road into the track.
Carry on along this farm road for a third of a mile into a farmyard
(Park Farm). Turn right at the end of the yard between the barns, following another white and green
sign for "The Shuteslades".
Follow the track down for half a mile until you get to The Shuteslades,
where you will see a sign for the car park. Unpack your car, make a cup of tea and leave your troubles behind.
(nb. The track is an unmade farm track, so care is needed here).
